I have a couple cheapy Moultrie cameras and a Cuddeback IR. One of the Moultries is a goner and I want to replace it. I'm looking to hear what others are using and like.

I bought the Cuddeback last spring and had some trouble with it eating batteries at first but it has "settled down" and uses less batteries that the Moultries I have. I'm leaning toward picking up another Cuddeback but thought I'd ask you folks first.

No I'm not going to hand out $800 -$1000 for a camera I'm going to leave in the woods so let's keep the suggestions under $800.

Thanks

At the QDMA's Deer Steward Course Brad Morman and Dr. Grant woods both had high regard for Reconyx Camera's. They were not there to push a brand of camera and chose Reconyx for reliability and their ability to cature quality photos. They are not cheap but I believe they are well under $800.

You may want to check them out.

Whenever I fill in my preferences of what I am looking for in a trail camera (http://www.trailcampro.com/) the Reconyx always comes out on top. My biggest problem with that is the cost. I'm a little shy about leaving that much money hanging on a tree. Maybe I'm in the wrong business. I think I'll look into the boating industry? Anyone know of any openings?

It certainly looks to be the best camera on the market, just not sure I need that. Trying to see what everyone is using and how happy they are with it.

The ScoutGuard or the Bushnell Trophy Cam are both made at the same factory. They sell for right around $200. They run on 8AA batteries. I have mine out 24/7/365, and never had dead batteries. I change them every 3-4 months just to make sure they don't die on me. They take good pics, and I believe the trigger speed is as good or better than any other cam under $500. Both cams will do video, which is fun, and they are IR at night. If you want to see some pics or video let me know.

Any problems with those cameras not getting pictures when the weather gets really cold?

I would love to see some pictures if you want to post them.

The new Bushnell is out (8mp) and is under $180 at wholesalehunter.com.

I sent out an email asking the same question to our Co-op guys and this camera came back as the overhelming favorite. One is in the mail, head to my place.

I have both and they both worked great in Dec/Jan

I had one scoutguard stop working but they promptly replaced it under warr , I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the cold

My Bushnell was working great and then just quit. Thought it might be the batteries so changed them out and nothing. Even tried connecting an external 6v, nope. Sent the camera in and they fired a new one back to me, no questions. I love the 10 sec videos on this thing. It can keep you entertained for hours.
